Schleifenbauer: “Are you prepared for the new EU regulations for data centers?”

Schleifenbauer: “Are you prepared for the new EU regulations for data centers?”

From January 1, 2025, data centers across Europe will be required to accurately measure their energy efficiency through Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) metrics. This requirement is part of the updated EU Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) and aims to reduce the environmental impact of data centers, contributing to a more sustainable future.

These regulations present new challenges: How can a facility meet these stringent requirements without overhauling or replacing its entire infrastructure? Fortunately, practical and cost-effective solutions are available.

Smart Solutions for a Complex Challenge

A crucial step in meeting the new regulations is measuring and reporting energy consumption. This can be challenging, especially for data centres using existing non-intelligent Power Distribution Units (PDUs) in their server racks. One solution is to use technology that transforms these existing non-intelligent PDUs into measurable and manageable components of your energy management.

The Schleifenbauer Inline Meter

A practical way to meet the new PUE requirements is by using the Schleifenbauer Inline Energy Meter. This meter can be easily installed between the existing power source and the non-intelligent PDU, providing detailed insights into the PDU’s energy consumption. This not only ensures compliance with legal requirements but also offers the opportunity to optimise energy management and reduce costs.

Benefits of the Inline Energy Meter

  • Comprehensive Energy Measurement: Provides detailed energy data and integrates easily with existing DCIM software.
  • User-Friendly: Intuitive web interface for easy management and analysis of energy consumption.
  • Scalability: Manage over 50 Inline Energy Meters via a single IP address for efficient monitoring.
  • Customisation at No Extra Cost: Meters can be tailored to specific needs such as plug type, cable length, and colour. They are quickly delivered and manufactured in the Netherlands.
  • Easy Installation: Suitable for installation in existing server racks, both vertical and horizontal 19″, and available in single-phase and three-phase, 10A, 16A, 32A, and 63A.

Consider a Full Upgrade

For some data centers, a full upgrade to intelligent PDUs may be a better solution. With (free) customised PDUs that perfectly fit the existing infrastructure, data centers can meet with Schleifenbauer new requirements without compromise. These PDUs are also quickly delivered and manufactured in the Netherlands, just like the Inline Energy Meters.

Prepared for the Future

The new EU regulations for data centers are approaching quickly. It’s important to take timely steps to comply with these requirements while optimising energy management. Whether opting for a simple upgrade with the Inline Meter or a complete switch to intelligent PDUs, solutions are available to help prepare your data centre for the future.
